How can I fix issues with the audio being off by 5 to 10 seconds?  I have a .mkv file and basically used the defaults to convert it.  Video quality is great and audio is there, it's just out of sync.  It's a AC3 audio stream.  Thanks.

Some questions :

- is it a Dual Audio Source, did you get any message warning that ?

- can you play it correctly in Windows Media Player ?

- does it have any delay ? check Audio Info when you input that movie ( expand "+" signal to get that info )

- what framerate does it have ? check Video Info

Anyway, try this fix :

- try to demux that audio with AVIMux-Gui

http://www.alexander-noe.com/video/amg/

- input that MKV, then click "Generate Data from Source" button, or something like that

- then right-click over the Audio Stream and make "Extract Binary"

Then use that Extracted AC3 as External Audio in AVI2ISO in Audio Tab

AVIMux-Gui usually fixes bad audio

Another advice is to use good codecs to render MKVs, such as :

Haali Media Splitter + CoreAVC and AC3 Filter

Thanks for the quick reply.  Here's the answers to your questions.

Not sure, did not get a message

- can you play it correctly in Windows Media Player ?

the mkv file plays fine.....I played it with vlc not WMP

- does it have any delay ? check Audio Info when you input that movie ( expand "+" signal to get that info )

No, it says 0ms

- what framerate does it have ? check Video Info

25 fps

You should play that movie in Windows Media Player, or better than that : Windows Media Player Classic

http://www.videohelp.com/tools/Media_Player_Classic_Home_Cinema

I recommend Haali Media Splitter + CoreAVC and AC3 Filter, as the primary Codecs to play MKV in any system, because they are fast and reliable, forget FFDSHOW or something like that

Try to use the fix I mentioned above : using AVIMux-Gui to extract audio and use it as external audio

The best A/V sync ratio is achieved when you don't make any framerate conversions.  AVI2ISO doesn't make that with MKVs .... what turns this out very odd, because it just makes an audio copy

Would it matter that it says PAL and I choose to change it to NTSC?

AVI2ISO doesn't make any framerate conversions in MKV, but keeping the original framerate is the best choice : PAL to PAL, NTSC to NTSC, just in case..if you know what I mean

Please try to use AVIMUX-GUI to extract audio, and then use it as External Audio

let me know if that solution worked, only then I can give more detailed information

meanwhile I'm making here some tests with some sources

Extracting the audio and using it as an external source worked like a charm!  I did do another test with it going PAL to PAL and the audio was still off.  I dosen't really matter to me now knowing that the external audio method works.  Thanks!

There is some MKV sources with very damaged AC3 audio

Can you make another test ? instead of using AVIMux-Gui to extract the audio, use MKVToolnix to extract and then convert using the same method of External Audio. It could be a MKVToolnix issue with some kind of sources because is the tool that AVI2ISO uses to extract the audio

This is very odd, you normally don't need to extract audio by yourself, meanwhile I will investigate if there is any bug in this 2.10.00 Beta 3 version

Please, make that test if you can and let me know the results
